collecting kinda sucks now

The video argues that collecting has been warped by viral frenzies—Stanley cup resellers, blind-box toys like Labubu, and PopMart drops—where manufactured scarcity and social-media hype drive prices and attention more than personal value. Practical takeaways: treat trend drops like speculative purchases—set strict budgets, research rarity/resale dynamics (odds, release sizes, community demand), and prioritize items you’ll enjoy long-term rather than chase short-term clout. If you want emotional satisfaction and can tolerate volatility, engage selectively using community intel and market metrics; if you want durable value, focus on a curated, intentional collection and avoid chase-driven blind boxes and hyped accessories.
